One Health Poultry Hub co-investigator Professor Nitish Debnath has been appointed to the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) to combat zoonotic diseases.

Professor Debnath, a pioneer of One Health in Bangladesh where he is  National Coordinator of One Health Bangladesh, is one of 26 experts to serve on the OHHLEP, which  is a joint initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Professor Debnath said:

To me, One Health is harnessing the creative power of diversity to solve complex problems and the OHHLEP is full of diversity, both  geographically and professionally. I am very pleased to be a part of this great initiative and looking forward to working with it.

There were more than 700 applications to the Panel, which was announced earlier this year.

The OHHLEP will provide, among other things, high political visibility on the subject of One Health and guidance on One Health-related matters that support improved cooperation among governments.
