The initiative saw 75 participants taking part in a course, ‘Building a network of researchers with expertise in molecular diagnostics to monitor and investigate antimicrobial resistance in selected countries in South Asia’, that was held earlier this year. They had been selected from more than 400 applications.

A collaboration between three One Health Poultry Hub partners – the Royal Veterinary College, UK,  Anand Agricultural University, India, and Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre, India – the course has helped plug the skills gap in South Asian microbiology laboratories. Many of these have the capability to do phenotypic testing but are unable to carry out resistance gene analysis and molecular diagnostics due to a lack of knowledge, skills and resources.
