The third One Health Poultry Hub all-partner conference took place midway through the Hub’s fourth year and as it prepared for its fifth and final year in its current configuration.

With many research activities now yielding exciting outcomes, a major emphasis of the event was on revising the Hub’s Theory of Change, to account for changing circumstances, and ensuring our pathways to impact can be leveraged as planned.

Participants included more than 100 in-person delegates and many others attended online. This hybrid event was arranged as follows:

DAY ONE – SHOWCASING THE HUB

Speakers addressed an invited audience of Bangladesh dignitaries and stakeholders. They variously outlined the Hub’s research and impact activities and how the Hub seeks to synergise and collaborate with other national, regional and global actors in the One Health space, focusing in particular on the host country Bangladesh.

Mr Shamsul Arefin Khaled, Director of the Nourish Poultry Group, gave a keynote presentation on the progress, potential and challenges of poultry production in South Asia.

The Chief Guest of Honour was Honourable Secretary Dr Nahid Rashid, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh. Other special guests included: Mr Matt Cannell, (Development Director, British High Commission), Dr Rashid Zaman (Health Advisor), Professor Dr Goutam Buddha Das (CVASU VC), Professor Dr Nitish Chandra Debnath (CVASU founding VC), Professor Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam (Director General, Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh), Dr Monjur Mohammad Shahjada (Director General, Directorate General of Livestock Services, Bangladesh), Major General Mohammad Yousuf (Director General, Directorate General of Drug Administration, Bangladesh), Professor Dr Ahmedul Kabir (Additional Director General, Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh) and Professor Dr Mahmudur Rahman (Former Director, IEDCR).

Other key external stakeholder guests addressing the conference  included Mr Md. Abu Sufian, Director of Department of Livestock Services, Bangladesh; T.A.B.M. Mozaffar Gani Osmani, Chief of Epidemiology Unit, Department of Livestock Services, Bangladesh; Dr Roderick Card, FAO-AMR Reference Centre, APHA, UK; and Ms Carrie Rasmussen, Bangladesh Office Director, Population, Health and Nutrition, USAID.

DAY  TWO – PROGRESS PRESENTATIONS

Investigators across all partners presented on progress across Hub programmes and work packages. The day included opportunities for internal reflection and comparing and contrasting experiences and findings between sites.

In plenary as well as in group work, the event focused on planning Year Five activities, as well as horizon scanning to ensure the Hub’s work continues.
